چکیده
Abstract Background and study aims In gastrointestinal endoscopy, biopsies must transit through the accessory channel cap, presenting an opportunity for loss of tissue. We sought to determine incidence specimen retention in or cap identify procedure characteristics associated with retention. Patients methods After completion standard endoscopic procedures which were obtained, biopsy inspected, brushed, irrigated any retained specimens according a protocol. For controls, same protocol was applied not obtained. Specimen bottles from recovery sent pathological examination regardless whether visible tissue present. Results A total 216 outpatient included: 55 esophagogastroduodenoscopies (EGDs) 50 colonoscopies obtained 56 EGDs control group. Retained found either 105 (48%). 20 (19%), just six (5.7%), channel, while 24 (23%), both channel. more likely be compared (58% vs. 36%, P = 0.031). No Conclusions are startingly common could potentially change diagnoses management. Quality improvement measures should instituted monitor prevalence prevent them developed.

Yield of esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy in cancer of unknown primary
OBJECTIVES Carcinoma of unknown primary origin (CUP) is heterogeneous group of cancers. Role of gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy in this entity is under investigated. Aim of this study was to evaluate yield of Colonoscopy and Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) in localizing primary tumor in patients with CUP. METHODOLOGY Patients with histopathologically proven CUP who underwent colonoscopy / EG...

Small Intestinal Biopsy Specimens
The effect of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) on the crypt cell production rate in normal human duodenal mucosa cultured in vitro was studied using a stathmokinetic technique with crypt microdissection. The addition of 5-HT (2 mg/ml) to the culture medium significantly increased the crypt cell production rate (p < 000 1), suggesting that this amine may have a trophic effect on crypt cells in vitro. ...

The distribution of tissue polypeptide antigen (40 kD molecular weight) in normal adult and fetal liver, and in liver disease was investigated and compared with the distribution of low and high molecular weight cytokeratins. In normal liver tissue polypeptide antigen was found only in bile duct epithelium; this distribution is similar to that of high molecular weight cytokeratin, but differs fr...
متن کاملRapid histological changes in endomyocardial biopsy specimens after myocarditis.
The course and response to treatment in acute lymphocytic myocarditis are conventionally monitored by endomyocardial biopsy performed every 3-12 weeks. A patient with a short history (five days) of acute myopericarditis of unknown aetiology presented in cardiogenic shock with evidence of severe systolic dysfunction on the echocardiogram. The initial biopsy specimen showed histologically unequiv...
